super-agent
also super agent or AI super-agent or AI super agent
Definition of super-agent
-
: an AI agent designed to coordinate a broad domain of work across multiple tasks, sessions, tools, or specialized worker agents, while maintaining higher-level context and deciding what should happen next
- The super-agent routed the bug report to an isolated coding session and later returned the pull request to the original team chat.
- Instead of making one worker agent responsible for everything, the system used a super-agent to preserve global context and coordinate several concurrent tasks.
Origin & history
Super-agent appeared in modern agentic-AI discussion by 2025 as a label for agents intended to handle complex, multi-layered work or coordinate specialized agents. In October 2026, the DeepSeek Harness team used the term for a system architecture that separates a global Router from isolated Worker sessions, accepts event-driven tasks, and uses an external Watchdog to monitor progress.
