In AI
A disparaging term for low-quality, unreliable, insecure, or derivative software produced rapidly with heavy reliance on generative AI and too little human review…
Origin & history
Slopware combines slop, meaning something messy or low in quality, with the software suffix -ware. The word existed before generative AI as an occasional insult for bad software. It acquired a renewed AI-specific sense in 2025 and 2026 as developers and critics used AI slopware for applications generated quickly with coding models but released without sufficient understanding, testing, security review, or long-term ownership.
