Researchers Michał Klincewicz, Mark Alfano, and Amir Ebrahimi Fard used the term in their 2025 paper Slopaganda: The Interaction Between Propaganda and Generative AI to name a propaganda strategy enabled by generative systems. It became more visible in political reporting and election analysis during 2026.
