agent SLO
also AI agent SLO or agent service-level objective or agent service level objective or behavioral SLO
Definition of agent SLO
-
: a measurable reliability target for an AI agent over a defined period, covering outcomes such as task completion, groundedness, safe tool use, response time, or cost, and often paired with an error budget
- The support team set an agent SLO requiring at least 97 percent of refund requests to be handled correctly without exposing customer data.
- A latency SLO showed that the agent was fast, but a separate behavioral SLO revealed that it often failed to complete the requested task.
Origin & history
The term adapts the service-level objective, or SLO, used in site reliability engineering to AI agents whose failures can involve behavior and task quality as well as uptime. It became more visible in 2026 as observability teams described SLOs and error budgets for groundedness, fulfillment, toxicity, latency, and cost.
